Fixing the Google Gmail  Blank Page Problem

(This will also resolve the YouTube Flash player errors as well)

Problem Cause

This problem occurs after an automatic Windows Update including the DEP (Data Execution Prevention) software. In order to use Gmail normally you must disable DEP for Internet Explorer.

Temporary Solution
Use the following link to access your Gmail account

Permanent Solution

I have been made aware that this solution may only work for those who were affected by the recent Windows Update. If you were affected by this issue before the recent update (around Jan 13 2007) this may not help you.
Any feedback you can provide will help me to improve the information on this page, I can be contacted at the email address at the bottom of this page.

For Firefox users a clearing of the cache and cookies seems to be the solution.

1) Right-click on My Computer and click Properties

2) Click on the Advanced tab

3) Click the Settings button under the Performance section

4) Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab

5) Click the 'Turn on DEP for all programs except' radio button

  6) Click the Add button

  7) Find the executable (iexplore.exe) for Internet Explorer
(c: \ Windows \ IE7 \ iexplore.exe for IE 7)

  8) Click OK

  9) Log in and out of gmail a few times, then follow steps 1 thru 4 above, unchecking Internet Explorer and gmail should continue to work properly

If this helped you, you can thank me here: timothydicks@comcast.net (not required)

You can thank my wife for this solution, I don't even use Gmail but she insisted that I 'Make it work' as if I am some kind of god.

I am not sure if this is a flaw in googles code that makes DEP see it as malicious, or an attempt by Microsoft to crush Gmail to get people onto Hotmail and Live. I found the solution from a Microsoft KB article, but it was pertaining to another issue, not the Gmail problem.
